Career Coaching in Amsterdam

I work with professionals who are good at what they do, but aren’t sure they ever actually chose it.

I’m Leo, a mindset and life coach based in Amsterdam. I left a director-level career not because it had stopped working, but because I finally got clear enough about what I actually wanted. I coach in English and Portuguese.

Is This You?

Most people who come to me talking about their careers tell me something specific. The job has stopped feeling meaningful. Or they’re at a crossroads they can’t seem to get past. Or they’ve been circling the same decision for months without being able to move.

But when we slow down, it’s usually something deeper than that. They’ve been moving through their career by default rather than by choice. A job led to another, from opportunity to opportunity. And at some point the career took shape without them stopping to ask whether it was what they actually wanted.

They’re successful at what they do, which is part of what makes it so hard. Because the better you are at something, the more the path takes care of itself. And the less you have to stop and ask whether it’s the right path.

What’s Actually Going On

Career problems don’t usually come from failure. They come from succeeding at something that was never really yours.

Success is self-reinforcing. The better you get at something, the more it grows around you. More responsibility, more identity, more of your life built around it. And by the time you notice it doesn’t fit anymore, the exit isn’t just complicated. It starts to feel almost unjustifiable.

What I see underneath most situations like this isn’t a career problem. It’s a question that was never properly asked: what do you actually want? Not what seemed sensible at the time. Not what the next logical step was. But what would genuinely feel like yours.

How I Work With Career

Most career decisions get made back to front. The options come first. What’s available, what pays well, what seems like a logical next step. And then you try to figure out how you actually fit in any of it. That tends to produce movement without direction.

We start from who you actually are. Not from what you think your options are.

That means getting clear on what you value, what kind of work genuinely fits you, and what you actually want your life to look like. That clarity is harder to come by than it sounds, but once you have it, you stop drifting and start choosing.

What you leave with is a much clearer sense of what you actually want. Not a plan someone else made. I help you get clear enough that the choice genuinely becomes yours.

Leaving because you have to and leaving because you’ve chosen to aren’t the same thing. And that’s what this work is for.

Career coaching is available in Amsterdam and online across Europe, in English and Portuguese.

What Changes with Career Coaching

People come in circling the same thoughts and leave with something they didn’t have: clarity about what they actually want, not just what seems sensible or safe.

Maybe the job changes or maybe it doesn’t. But what definitely changes is how the decision gets made. Something that used to happen by default starts to happen by your own choice.

FAQ About Career Coaching

No. Career advice tells you what to do. A career advisor looks at your CV, your skills, and the job market and suggests a direction. That can be useful if you already know what you want. Career coaching starts before that. The question isn’t “what’s available?” but “what do I actually want?” Most people I work with haven’t answered that question honestly yet, or haven’t asked it at all.

Yes, and that uncertainty is actually a good place to start. The answer isn’t something I can give you upfront, and anyone who can is probably guessing. What coaching does is create the conditions for you to figure that out for yourself. Some people do this work and realise they need something genuinely different. Others realise the job was never the real issue. Both are valid. But neither is available until you’ve actually looked honestly at what’s going on.

There’s rarely a perfect time. There will always be financial considerations, practical complications, and a version of yourself that says “not yet.” The more useful question is whether you’re staying because it’s genuinely right for you, or because you’re avoiding what comes next. Coaching helps you tell the difference. And the free discovery call is a good place to start figuring that out.

This is actually the most common reason people come to me around career. Not failure, but a quiet sense that the success isn’t quite theirs. That’s harder to name and harder to act on than a clear crisis, because everything looks fine from the outside. Coaching works particularly well here because you have enough stability to do the work, but not enough clarity yet to move forward.
