Life Coaching for Expats in Amsterdam
I work with people who have made the move and built something real here, but still feel like they haven’t quite arrived.
I’m Leo, a mindset and life coach based in Amsterdam, and sixteen years as an expat across several countries means I know this territory from the inside. I coach in English and Portuguese.

Is This You?
Most expats I work with don’t come to me talking about being an expat. They come talking about work, or something that isn’t working.
But usually it’s something bigger. Somewhere in the move, they lost the thread of who they actually are. Their social anchors, their history, the version of themselves that their environment used to reflect back, all have changed. And the gap between the life they’re living and the one they actually want keeps quietly growing.
They know something needs to shift. But taking any meaningful step feels complicated when finances, visa status, and the whole structure of their new life depends on keeping things as they are.
What’s Actually Going On
Moving countries strips away the external scaffolding that helps to tell you who you are. In its place: a new city, a new community, and a lot of unknowns.
Work fills that gap because it gives structure and a reason to be here. But work was never meant to carry all of that weight. Eventually the distance between who you are at work and who you’d be if you were actually living on your own terms starts to feel uncomfortable.
The people I work with know they want something different. But there’s a distinction between taking the unknown seriously and letting it stop you. Between making decisions based on what you actually know and making them based on fear of what you don’t. That’s usually where the real work begins.
How I Work With Expats
We start from where you actually are. Not where you think you should be.
What most people in this situation need isn’t someone telling them to quit or to stay. They need clarity. About what they actually want, what they actually value, and what living on their own terms looks like.
Once that’s clearer, the practical constraints become things to work with rather than reasons to stay stuck.
There’s a real difference between an actual constraint and a story you’ve been telling yourself to avoid the unknown.
Some of what feels impossible turns out to be more possible than it seemed. And I know what it’s like to build a life from scratch in a country that isn’t yours.
Life coaching for expats is available one-to-one in Amsterdam and online across Europe.

What Life Coaching Does for Expats
People come in feeling like they’re living slightly out of sync with their own lives. What shifts is the relationship with themselves. They get clearer on who they actually are outside the context they came from, and what they actually want now that they’re here.
That clarity doesn’t necessarily lead to a dramatic change. But it always leads to more intentional choices. And it tends to make wherever they are feel more like theirs.

FAQ About Life Coaching for Expats
Not at all. Most expats I work with don’t come saying “I need expat coaching.” They come talking about work, or a decision they can’t make, or just a general sense that something is off. Being an expat is usually part of the context, not the label on the problem. What matters is that something isn’t working and you want to change it. We figure out the rest together.
Yes, but not in the way a financial advisor or career consultant would. Coaching helps you get clear on what you actually want and what’s genuinely a constraint versus what’s a story you’ve been telling yourself to avoid what’s next. A lot of what feels impossible turns out to be more possible than it seemed, once you’ve looked at it honestly.
Yes. All sessions are online via Zoom, so location isn’t a barrier. I work with expats across Europe and beyond. If you’re in Amsterdam and prefer in-person sessions, that’s available on request.
There’s no fixed timeline. Some people work through what they need in a handful of sessions. Others find ongoing coaching useful over several months. Most clients find fortnightly sessions over two to three months is where the real shift happens. The free discovery call is a good place to talk about what would work for your specific situation.
